Proguard Automotive FAQs
What kinds of vehicles do vehicle protection plans cover?
Vehicle plan providers cover all kinds of vehicles. However, there are some exclusions.
Proguard covers a wide list of vehicles ranging from new to pre-owned, low to high mileage,
Certified Pre-Owned, luxury, EV/Hybrid and commercial.
What repairs are covered by an extended warranty?
The amount of coverage differs from plan to plan so you are going to want to review each plan
to find the coverage that meets your needs. If you are someone who wants the peace of mind of
knowing that everything is included, consider PG 5. If you just want to cover the powertrain
components, look at PG 1 or The Decade Powertrain for coverage.
How do I get a quote for a vehicle protection plan?
Unlike other companies that advertise on TV or solicit your business through postcards,
Proguard only sells protection plans through dealers in our network at the time of sale. We
believe this is the best way to ensure that you are matched with the right product for your
needs and budget.
Can I buy a protection plan at any time?
To ensure there is no lapse in coverage on vehicles no longer covered under the basic factory
warranty, plans must be bought on the same day you purchase/lease your vehicle and the cost
of the plan can be wrapped into your financing. If the vehicle still has factory coverage, you have
until that warranty runs out.
Why would I buy a protection plan for a new vehicle?
Mileage is one of the factors that drives the price of a plan up so many savvy buyers purchase a
protection plan on a new vehicle knowing they can get it a lot cheaper now than when the
vehicle has a lot of miles on it.
Do you cover EV and Hybrid Vehicles?
Yes, we cover the major components (including the propulsion battery, transmission, and
electric motor) that are expensive to replace and eventually going to wear down.
Do your plans come with additional perks & benefits?
Yes, Proguard offers value adds that other plans don’t including a <<<SiriusXM>>> 3-month
Platinum Plan trial subscription on eligible vehicles factory-equipped with satellite radio. Plans
also include 24/7 roadside assistance, towing, rental car reimbursement and trip interruption
coverage – all of which are important considerations when weighing which plan makes the most
sense for you.
Are lost keys covered under my protection plan?
No, Proguard plans do not currently cover lost keys.
When does my coverage start?
Coverage begins day one on pre-owned vehicles, so you are fully protected against covered
repair costs the day you purchase your vehicle. For pre-owned vehicles or those that have the
balance of their manufacturer's warranty remaining, coverage begins upon expiration of the
warranty.
Are your contracts insured?
Proguard contracts are fully insured by A-rated insurance companies who A.M. Best considers
excellent in financial strength and their ability to pay claims.
Is there a mileage restriction on your plans?
Yes, and we clearly state upfront the maximum mileage that plan covers so there are no
surprises.
Where can I go for repairs?
With factory warranties, you are limited to the dealership for repairs but Proguard puts control
in your hands to take the vehicle to the repair facility of your choice. To help ensure quality
work, we can recommend a Proguard Select Vehicle Repair Facility in our network anywhere in
the nation.
How do I know if my contract is active?
Once we have received and accepted your contract application and payment from your
dealer, we will issue and mail you an ID card. You'll want to keep this card with you in
case a problem occurs while on the road.
How do I file a claim?
Even the most well-maintained car may have a problem and when it does, it is best to act right
away. Drive your vehicle to the repair facility of your choice, or have it towed if necessary. Make
your you have your ID card with you and ask the facility to contact Proguard to initiate a claim.
After that, let us do our work to get it approved and your repair done.
What am I responsible for?
Just your deductible and any components or repair costs that are not covered under your plan.
If there are any costs, they will be communicated to you by one of our claims adjustors so there
are no surprises.
How will my claim be paid?
Proguard will remit payment directly to the repair facility quickly and efficiently via credit card,
ACH, or check.
What if I paid for work done on my vehicle without filing a claim and am
looking for reimbursement?
We strongly recommend not paying for any work until a claim has been filed and the review
process has been completed. If you have paid for work to be done outside of the claims process,
you will need to send a copy of the invoice of repair to our claims manager with a letter
explaining why Proguard was not notified of the claim. It will be taken under review.
How do I keep my coverage active?
We do ask that you get routine maintenance work done as outlined in your owner’s manual. Be
sure to keep detailed records, receipts and invoices related to any service you have performed
on your vehicle, which will help with the process if you ever need to file a claim.
Can my protection plan be transferred?
Yes. If you sell the vehicle, we offer transferable protection to the next owner, extending the
value of your plan and vehicle. If you would like to transfer a vehicle, click here.
Am I able to upgrade my vehicle protection plan?
Yes, you have the option to extend the term of your plan for additional
coverage directly from your selling dealer. To apply for a longer term, your
request must be made through the selling dealer before the expiration of your
current contract and your vehicle must meet eligibility guidelines.

within the first 30 days and at any time after that in the event of total loss, repossession,
or unrecovered theft. For any other questions about cancellations, refer to your
